The Shanghai YMCA celebrated Women's Day by hosting activities where participants crafted flower purses, cards, and lipstick by hand and tried on Hanfu, traditional attire of ancient Han Chinese culture.
On March 8, at the Shanghai Huaai Elderly Care Home affiliated with Shanghai YMCA, the event began with a presentation of the achievements of remarkable women in modern China through photos. At the handmade purse-making session, the attendees couldn’t wait to wear the beautiful finished products, striking poses in delight.
The Shanghai Zhujiamen Daycare Center for the Elderly held a poetry reading of "Happy Women's Day." The seniors also created "tulip greeting cards" under the guidance of staff.
On the same day, Shanghai Xinjiayuan Community Cultural Activity Center commemorated the festival with an innovative combination of "magic plus opera."
On March 6, an instructor first presented the ingredients and steps for hand-making lipstick at the Dapuqiao Community Cultural Activity Center, and then the women present followed the tutorial to create lipstick.
On March 7, 20 women in Hanfu read lines from The Last Quarter of the Moon at the Shimen Second Road Community Cultural Activity Center. They then started creating micro-landscape-potted plants together. They walked down the right bank of Suhe Bay in Hanfu at the end of the event.
At a local daycare center, 10 groups of parent-child families selected mystery boxes for their mothers and handmade lipsticks together.
