On the third week of January, the Shanghai Municipal Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) held a series of public welfare activities for the disadvantaged.
According to the association, the donation ceremony for the "Care for Those Around You: Warm Hearts of the Elderly" project, under the organization of the Shanghai Huaai Charity Foundation and initiated by the Shanghai YMCA, took place on January 17 at Qibao Nursing Home. Since the project's launch, it has contributed to the medical staff supporting Hubei during the pandemic, children in need, and people with disabilities.
This "Warm Hearts of the Elderly" project aims to provide care in the winter to elderly people who are in need and live alone in nursing homes and communities.
The Dapuqiao Community Cultural Activity Center of Shanghai YMCA recently initiated a coffee culture experience event to optimize the business environment.
During the course, the instructor explained the origin, spread, and connection among different cultural phenomena of coffee, introducing coffee beans from different production areas and varieties, and the story of coffee beans.
Later, the attendees made coffees with unique latte art following the latte art tutorial.
On January 16, the Shanghai Huaai Elderly Care Home held its annual caregiver skills competition with 17 participants. This competition included five common daily care conditions: dealing with the elderly with dementia, wheelchair transfer, morning and evening care, changing urinals and diapers, and emergency response to falls.
The municipal YMCA founded the Shanghai Huaai School of Continuing Education, which held its sixth council meeting on Friday.
The council discussed ideas, methods, and tactics to promote the educational development of the school. At the meeting, Principal Wu Jianrong reviewed the school’s history with an introduction of the school’s key teaching work in 2023 as well as the plans and expectations for 2024.
The Gucun Town Xinjiayuan Community Cultural Activity Center of the Shanghai YMCA held a parent-child orientation on the sixth day of the week. The teacher taught about the origin of the Chinese New Year, the foods of the Spring Festival, and popular folk songs. In the paper-cutting session, children and parents made handicrafts, such as window grilles, lanterns, twelve zodiac signs, and the Chinese character "福" (meaning blessing).
On January 21, the Shanghai YMCA Shimen 2nd Road Community Cultural Activity Center’s Paper Club kicked off a series of science popularization events.
During the "Chasing Marine Life Fossils" lecture, volunteer teachers shared the story of the Permian fossil group recently discovered and unearthed in Jiande Town, Zhejiang Province, and demonstrated the process of fossilization of marine animals.
In addition, the club held a picture book reading session, themed "Indispensable Gravity," along with scientific experiments and DIY activities to allow children to explore the "force" in life.

据上海市基督教青年会,1月17日,由上海基督教青年会发起的上海华爱公益基金会承办的“关爱身边的TA——银龄暖心”项目捐赠仪式在七宝敬老院举行。该项目自开展以来,先后关注过援鄂医护人员、困境儿童、残障人士。
此次“银龄暖心”项目,为养老院以及社区独居困难长者送上冬日温暖。
为进一步优化营商环境,近日,上海基督教青年会打浦桥社区文化活动中心举办咖啡文化体验活动。
课程讲师讲解了咖啡的起源、传播以及与各种文化现象的关联,并介绍了不同产区和品种的咖啡豆,分享咖啡豆的故事。
后来,讲师展示了如何制作精美的拉花图案后,参与者们制作出了独特的拉花咖啡作品。
1月16日,为进一步提高护理服务水平,上海华爱长者照护之家开展一年一度的护理员技能比武竞赛活动,共有17位护理人员参与。本次竞赛包含日常护理工作中常见的认知症长者情况应对、轮椅的转运、晨晚间护理、更换尿盆及纸尿裤、跌倒的应急处置5大项内容。
1月19日,上海市基督教青年会发起的上海华爱进修学校举办第六届理事会的第一次会议。
此次理事会就引领和推进该学校教育教学未来发展的思路、方法与措施进行了探讨。会上,吴建荣校长梳理学校校史,介绍了2023年学校的重点教学工作以及在2024年的办学计划与期望。
1月20日,上海基督教青年会顾村镇馨佳园社区文化活动中心举办亲子迎新活动。老师带领孩子们了解了过年的由来,春节美食以及耳熟能详的民谣。在DIY剪纸环节,亲子家庭完成一幅幅剪纸作品,有窗花、灯笼、十二生肖、“福”字。

“追寻海洋生物化石”讲座上,志愿者老师分享了近期发现和发掘的浙江省建德镇二叠纪化石群的故事,展示了海洋动物石化成为化石的过程。
另外,俱乐部举办《不可缺少的重力》绘本阅读活动,开展科学小实验和动手DIY,让孩子们探索生活中的“力”。
