As most provinces detected confirmed cases, church members in Shaanxi, Jiangxi, Guangdong, and Shanxi Province engaged in the fight against the coronavirus outbreaks, donating food supplies.
Mainland China on Monday reported 1,947 new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases and 2,384 asymptomatic infections, with a total of more than 37,000 local cases in March, said the South China Morning Post on March 21.
Following precautionary measures since March 8, such as screening, quarantining and isolation, and citywide nucleic acid testing, Caoyan Church in Nanzheng District, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, on March 17 held a virtual mobilization meeting for COVID-19. The next day, church staff purchased more than 5,000 yuan worth of relief supplies, including instant noodles, ham sausage, mineral water, soda water, bread, masks, and toothpaste, which were presented to medical personnel and staff workers in seven communities, Shaanxi CC&TSPM said.
Last Thursday, Li Qinglan, head of a church in the High-Tech Industrial Development Zone of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, delivered meals and necessities to more than 160 quarantined people, according to Zhidao Church in Nanchang. Suffering from hypoxia due to wearing protective clothing and masks, Li said, "As long as there are still quarantined personnel, I will continue to send food and supplies to them until the outbreak in the city is over."
On March 20, pastoral staff and volunteers of Ci’en Church in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, assisted with nucleic acid testing for key workers, guiding the masses to scan the code to register and maintaining the order of site, Guangzhou CC&TSPM reported.
As confirmed cases emerged in Linyi County, Yuncheng, Shanxi Province, as of March 7, people were not permitted to travel unless it was necessary.
