Torrential rainstorms and floods affected 1,240,737 people in 560 townships in 89 counties (cities, districts) in central China’s Henan Province from July 16 to 21, leaving 25 dead and 7 missing, according to Xinhua News Agency.
After the disaster, the Amity Foundation initiated disaster relief as soon as possible.
Starting on the early morning of July 21, the foundation has launched the "Amity Assistance to Henan in Flood" project on Tencent's public welfare platform, Alipay Ant Forest public welfare platform, and Sina micro public platform, according to the foundation.
With the support of netizens, the three platforms had respectively raised 1,027,811.15 yuan, 2,010,045.34 yuan, and 1,013,518.08 yuan as of noon on July 21.
At 3 p.m. on July 21st, the foundation purchased the first batch of relief supplies, including instant noodles, mineral water, ham sausage, bread, shachima, hand sanitizer, mosquito repellent, alcohol wipes and wind oil, which were to be distributed to affected people in Zhengzhou and Xinxiang.
The foundation also received support and other donations from Shandong CC&TSPM, enterprises, and individuals.
Amity Foundation, an independent Chinese social development organization, was created in 1985, on the initiative of Chinese Christians to promote education, social service, health, community development, and civil society building to people from China's coastal provinces in the east to the minority areas of the west.
