Since June 17, the faith-based Amity Foundation, together with its partners, rushed to the rescue of the flooded areas in the south of China, carrying out emergency rescue, post-disaster help and recovery of production and life.
Starting from June 25, Amity has been assisting the flood-stricken areas, which were hit by torrential rains, such as Shexian and Xiuning in Huangshan City, Anhui Province. On the second day, Amity members distributed the delivered materials and conducted a new research on the disaster.
Meanwhile, according to the research recently implemented by Amity in Zhongdu Town, Shanghang county, about 9,700 acres, accounting for approximately 40% of the local farmland, were affected by the disaster. At present, the drainage of most fields has been completed. To restore normal agricultural production quickly, it needs to grow new seedlings to the vacant soil. However, as a result of the disaster, more than 200 irrigation facilities with more than 29,000 meters were damaged. On June 26, the foundation purchased 40 pumps and planned to distribute them to those heavily-affected villages.
From June 23, the team have been supplying about 1,000 severely affected families or those families with elderly people or infants and young children with 200-yuan “Heart-warming Vouchers for One Elderly or One Child” to purchase the necessary supplies. Many of the beneficiary families have expressed that the disaster has caused serious financial losses to their families. It’s a great relief for them in their post-disaster lives.
In addition, 150 garbage cans that were sent to Zhongdu Town a few days ago are now being put into use to help local villagers to better clean the public environment after the disaster.
According to Guilin Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, some houses, roads and farmlands in nine townships were damaged to various extents, causing water logging. Amity also plans to provide 200-yuan vouchers to 1,000 families with elderly people or babies and children in Yongfu County.
