The Putian Municipal Charity Association in Fujian Province carried out medical treatment activities in rural areas.
On May 8, led by Reverend Zheng Jincan, President of Putian TSPM, senior herbalist doctor Zeng Zhaozhuo and his apprentice Zheng Xiahua brought silver needles and moxa sticks to a village in Licheng District, providing free clinical treatment and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to senior citizens, individuals with weakened health, young patients, and those leading busy lives, as reported by the association.
Dr. Zeng performed pulse diagnoses on each patient, offering personalized treatments, and practiced acupuncture and moxibustion along the acupoints for physiotherapy. The patient’s family members were instructed to decoct the TCM twice or three times and mix the decoction to avoid different concentrations. Dr. Zeng advised against storing the medicinal soup in a thermos bottle due to the potential alteration of taste and quality caused by the greenhouse effect. Villagers were given guidance on diet, work, and rest according to their physical condition. Finally, Zeng suggested that they take this decoction at fixed times (9 a.m., 4 p.m., and 8 p.m.) and inspect the TCM for signs of mold and deterioration before purchasing it. He further recommended a light diet and cautioned against consuming seafood and shellfish during the medication period, particularly when experiencing elevated body temperature.
The elderly, weak, and sick patients were advised to pay attention to climate change in the summer and change their clothes frequently if they became wet due to rainy or cold and humid weather, especially when the southerly wind blows. Zeng reminded them to place blankets or quilts on their children’s bellies at night to prevent exposure to wind and cold.
Over 20 villagers benefited from this free clinic. Some patients experienced an immediate reduction of symptoms after receiving acupuncture and physical therapy and were able to eat and take naps normally.
