The academic seminar on "Missionary Sinology and Changes in Modern Chinese Languages" and "The 13th Annual Meeting of the World Scholarly Association for the History of Chinese Language Teaching" were held at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) online due to COVID-19.
This seminar was jointly sponsored on October 15-16 by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature in the Faculty of Arts of HKBU and the World Scholarly Association for the History of Chinese Language Teaching which held its annual meeting in Hong Kong for the first time. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at HKBU.
This symposium aimed to promote the development of the international education history of the Chinese language, and the research on the history of contact and exchange between Chinese and foreign languages. More than 80 scholars and graduate students from all over the world were invited to share related academic research on the field of Chinese language education.
The specific topics of the symposium were: the research on the historical documents of Mandarin Chinese and Chinese dialects spoken by missionaries; the academic fusion of the East and the West and the history of pinyin (phonetic transcript) in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, the history of vocabulary exchange, the history of concepts, the history of the development of Mandarin, the history of Chinese language education, and the history of grammar.
The topics also included the academic fusion of the East and the West and stylistic theory, translation theory, language contact, modern science, and language in the late Qing and the Republic of China, the academic fusion of the East and the West and the transformation of the concept of the history of Chinese studies in modern East Asia, and the development of contemporary international Chinese language education from a multicultural perspective.
With the opening ceremony kicking off on the morning of October 15, keynote speeches and group reports of the seminar were given till the next afternoon, with a discussion session after each speech and report.

2022年10月15-16日，“传教士汉语研究与中国近代语变迁”学术研讨会暨“世界汉语教育史研究学会第13届年会” 在香港浸会大学召开，本次学术研讨会由香港浸会大学文学院中文系、世界汉语教育史研究学会联合主办。因受全球疫情的影响，会议以网络线上的形式举行。
据悉，这是世界汉语教育史研究学会首次在中国香港召开，而2022年正值香港浸会大学中文系建系60周年。
本次学术研讨会旨在进一步推动国际汉语教育研究领域的发展，促进世界汉语教育史、中外语言接触与交流史的研究，邀请了来自全球各地的80多位学者、研究生等分享汉语教育研究领域相关的学术研究。
“传教士汉语研究与中国近代语变迁”学术研讨会具体议题为：
1. 传教士汉语官话、汉语方言历史文献语言研究；
2. 东西学术交融与晚清民国拼音史、词汇交流史、概念史、官话发展史、汉语教育史、语法史。
3. 东西学术交融与晚清民国语体论、翻译论、语言接触、近代科学与语言等等；
4. 东西学术交融与近现代东亚汉语学史观念的转型；
5. 多元文化视角下的当代国际中文教育发展。
15日，学术研讨会开幕式于早上9点正式拉卡序幕，随后是研讨会主旨发言和分组报告的时间。分组报告持续到了16日上午11点40分，每次发言和报告结束后都会有10分钟的先上讨论环节。16日下午2点再次进行了研讨会的主旨发言环节，并于下午5点20分宣布研讨会正式闭幕，并由主办方发言致辞。
