The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region granted about HK$8 million to Amity Foundation (Hong Kong) on August 9, to help people affected by the floods in Henan Province.
The Disaster Relief Fund of HK$7,969,000 would be used to provide flour, edible oil, and quilts to approximately 18,880 households affected by the flood in Weihui and Huixian cities of Xinxiang, as well as Jun County and Qi County in Hebi, Henan, alleviating the shortage of food and living materials, according to Amity Foundation.
Amity initiated the disaster relief response on the early morning of July 21, sending two groups with eight members each to the front line. As of 16:00 on August 10, the foundation had raised a total of approximately 22.88 million yuan through Internet platforms, donations from enterprises, and individuals.
With the help of two local partners, the foundation had set up a transfer depot since July 24 for the temporary storage of materials in each of the two cities of Xinxiang and Hebi, adopting special management methods and operating procedures. Given that traffic was interrupted in some areas of the two cities due to heavy rainfall, making it impossible for people to enter, within the next ten days, the foundation delivered supplies to the disaster-hit areas where the traffic was gradually restored.
The Christian faith-based Foundation has continued to carry out the transportation and distribution of emergency supplies for villages and temporary shelters in need and has also prepared for transitional resettlement, post-disaster recovery, and reconstruction.
On August 6, Amity presented more than 24,000 apples (4,860 sets) to nearly 2,000 front-line medical staff in Zhengzhou, Henan.
