A batch of WeChat Christian accounts were removed around May 1 as China tightened its control over religious content within cyberspace.
A grassroots fellowship leader said that every clampdown on the Internet affected many good-quality Christian public accounts on WeChat, a popular Chinese social media platform, which meant a “hurt” to both creators and readers.
He stated that a blocked Christian account, like a Christian soldier, was glorious to be martyred.
“Martyrdom was the choice of saints, but God’s gift,” he said. “Christians in the early church were only worthy to be martyrs after taking all kinds of measures to run away from persecution.”
“A valuable Christian account is more likely to be blocked, just as Jesus, the only good man on the earth, was unavoidably crucified on the cross. Since the life of Jesus was so miserable, we can embrace any discomfort and hardship because Jesus has already walked on that path,” he added.
“Every time we are stuck in a hard situation, we often draw the same conclusion of the old John: the light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it (John 1:5). We don’t understand why it is so hard for the light to shine into the world as we believe in the true light of the universe. To be honest, despite being incited a lot, this Bible verse presents full negative emotions and eschatological despair.”
He continued, “The two-thousand-year church history is a history of church expansion and also a history of Christian blood and tears. Persecution at state level occurs from time to time, but regional oppression never ceases. Let’s return to the verse: the light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. If the darkness was so powerful, the church would have died hundreds of times. However, it never dies. Instead, it miraculously vibrates again and again.”
“Actually, John states that the light shines in the darkness, but the darkness does not overcome it. This is not ordinary light and the darkness cannot reject it. The Bible explicitly demonstrates that the darkness does not overcome the light. This is God’s promise as none of his words will fail. So don’t be afraid and just have faith,” he concluded.
