Since the beginning of June, heavy rains have triggered floods in many parts of the south of China, affecting nearly 30 provinces and tens of millions of people.
From June 2 to early July, the national meteorological center issued a rainstorm warning for 30 consecutive days, the duration which has been rare in recent years. Residents in many parts of the country said these rains brought unprecedented flooding.
According to the People's Daily, as of 2 in the afternoon on July 10, floods and rising water caused 33.85 million disasters in Zhejiang, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Sichuan, Chongqing, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, etc. According to the flood situation in the Yangtze River Basin, the National Defense General Administration initiated a Flood-Level I emergency response and made every effort to do rescue and relief work. More than 500,000 troops and civilians were invested in flood control in the southern provinces and regions. 127,800 were on the front line in Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui and other provinces.
