On Monday, Chinese regulators have started an online video games ethics committee that has started reviewing 20 titles in the hopes for the government to resume approvals which were paused throughout the year.

Since March, China has not approved new titles to be released in the market because of the growing criticism in the country about video games being too violent and lead to myopia and addiction. The freeze on new games has affected gaming-related stocks and lowered the outlook for mobile games, with Tencent Holdings reporitng a decline on its profits in the June quarter, the first drop in decades.

Xinhua reported that late Friday, the new games ethics committee - which will be headed by the Chinese Communist Party propaganda department and made up of gaming experts, media outlets and research institutions - already checked out 20 titles and may start approvals once more.

Xinhua reported that 11 titles were asked to be revised to "eliminate moral hazards" and rejected the remaining for improper content.
