A book by Dr. Zhuo Xinping, Research on Religious Trends in the Contemporary West: “New Age” Movement, Feminist Theology, and Postmodernism, was published.
The book, which the Social Sciences Academic Press (China) released in September 2023, examines the evolution of Western religious thought since the 1960s. It focuses on three modern ideologies, namely the “New Age” movement, feminist theology, and postmodernism, illustrating their development trends and characteristics in different periods.
For a variety of reasons, what the Chinese learn about Western religious ideologies is mostly historical information from the past, and there is little exposure to and study of contemporary Western religious thought.
The research in this book focuses on three aspects of Western society, particularly about religion, that have attracted much attention and divergent views in recent decades, including the religious ideologies in the New Age movement, feminist theology, and postmodernism. The book's discussion of contemporary Western religious development still focuses on the relationship between religion and technology, society, politics, as well as the spiritual development of humanity, but the reflection, and perspective offered by the author are much deeper and broader.
Awarded a Ph.D. degree at the University of Munich, Germany, Professor Dr. Zhuo Xinping is an honorary member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He is also the former director of the Institute of World Religions at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the honorary president of the Chinese Religious Society. Dr. Zhuo has published more than 40 books and 600 academic papers.
