Shaanxi Bible School conducted a special lecture titled "See Christianity and Chinese Culture from Emotional Philosophy."
The lecture was given at the "Chang'an Forum" of Shaanxi Province’s Sinicization of Christianity Research Center on April 19 by Dr. Li Jian from the Laozi (an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer) Institute of Xi’an International University, according to Shaanxi CC&TSPM.
Dr. Li expounded on the correlation between Christianity and Chinese culture from four perspectives: emotional philosophy, emotional turn, emotional philosophy with emotional objects, and emotional philosophy with Chinese culture. He emphasized the emotional philosophy within the Christian belief, specifically the subjective relationship between God and humans. This included the transformation from a nihilistic viewpoint based on unwavering rationalism to a vibrant life filled with love, hope, and faith. Particularly, Dr. Li highlighted that the philosophy of emotion was ingrained in the thoughts of Confucius and Laozi in traditional Chinese culture.
This lecture enabled attendees to comprehend the relationship between Christianity and Chinese culture in academia from the perspective of emotional philosophy. It also strengthened their confidence in the direction of the Sinicization of Christianity, encouraging them to explore the theory and practice of developing Christianity in the Chinese context.
