On June 8, 2020, Christian singer Leehom Wang shared on Sina Microblog that he sang his alma mater’s song for this year’s graduates.
Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no commencement for graduates of Williams College, but Wang sang the college’s song“The Mountains”on a mountain in Taipei to give blessings.
He also dedicated this song to all college graduates, wishing them a bright future.
He wrote, “During the pandemic, young brothers and sisters studied online back home. Today’s graduation ceremony was also held virtually. I’m very honored to be the only performance guest at the 2020 commencement.
To encourage and congratulate you, I climbed on the top of a mountain and sang the song ‘The Mountains’,
This song was created by Washington Gladden who graduated in 1859.
It is significant that he was very opposed to the then slavery, saying that was racial discrimination and holding that people of any skin should be equal.”
