In a previous article, I have talked a bit about the art of asking God.
To summarize it: to ask is to do so with openness, persistence, and faith.
Now, I'm going to share with you the art of receiving from God. We've asked, now, we shall receive.
Just as asking requires faith, so does receiving. Faith is an element in Christianity that can never be omitted no matter what the task is.
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about the things we cannot see. -Hebrews 11:1 NLT
Another translation says that faith is the conviction of things not seen. You don't see what you've received from God yet, but you know that you know that it's already there. This is what conviction is. It's a rock solid internal assurance.
Why do we have to have faith to receive?
But when you ask him, be sure that you faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with a divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from God. -James 1:6-7
To waver is to doubt. The moment that you get the conviction, you must hold on to it and be firm. Doubt will come, but stand your ground on what God has already told you because the moment you give in to it, you're back to square one. You've just lost your grip on what God intends to give you.
Receiving from God takes action much like receiving from another person. If someone hands you a present, you stretch out your hand to take it. Similarly, when God hands you what you're asking for, you must do something to grab a hold of it.
The Lord expects us to take action.
I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you've received it, it will be yours. -Mark 11:24 NLT
When you're expecting something from the Lord, believe that it's on its way. And as you meet a mail man at your door, get up and meet God halfway as He hands you the answer to what you've been praying for.
Believe, and take action to receive.
