Since people are born to be competitive, they like depending on themselves to overcome hard situations. When a tough circumstance comes, it is natural for non-Christians to immediately turn to themselves, their families, or friends. However, the difference with Christians is that there is a God on whom we can rely.
Psalm 20:7 claims, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
We are triumphant over hardships not because of ourselves, but because of the help from God who grants us peace and strength to defeat all adversities.
Below are ten Bible verses we can often read in the face of hopelessness, weakness, and suffering.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Hebrew 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.
Psalm 62:5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.
1 The 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 4:16-17 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
Romans 5:3-5 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Revelation 2:10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.
Psalm 118:8-9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in humans.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
Psalm 40:31 But those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
