On November 8, Liu Jianyong, secretary-general of Shanxi Christian Three-self Patriotic Movement (TSPM), led a group of nine people from the special committee of social service ministry to Jiexiu City, Jinzhong City to visit the believers who were affected by floods.
An unusual heavy rain struck the province from October 2 to 6, raising floods that ravaged 11 cities and affected more than 1.75 million people as Oct 10.
According to Shanxi TSPM, co-workers who visited the villages affected by the flood assessed the needs of the people there with encouragement.
More than ten houses were affected by the flood. The victims included host families, pastors, and believers with various medical conditions. Their homes suffered varying degrees of damage, including sinking foundations, water leaks, crumbling walls, and damaged furniture.
Secretary-General Liu and his colleagues went to check up on a sister who had been taken to the hospital for a brain bleed that morning. They offered her a support fund to help pay for all of her medical bills.
The delegation sent them noodles, oil, quilts, and other supplies with a total value of more than 13,000 yuan and a support fund of 60,000 yuan.
Many of the believers who were financially assisted were so excited that they could not express their gratitude. A sister also hugged the co-workers of the special committee, giving thanks to God.
