A church in Shandong held a sacred music worship event to celebrate its 115th anniversary.
More than 400 pastoral staff and believers attended the celebration for the Jiangsu Road Church in Qingdao on December 10.
There were over 14 sacred music works based on classical Chinese literature and music in sacred music worship.
The original piece "Praise the Lord Triassic (Ode to the Lord Trio)," using the melody of the top ten Chinese Guqin (a traditional Chinese instrument) pieces "Yangguan Triassic" to write lyrics, recounted the story of the life of Jesus.
"Hymn of Perfection of the Three Majesties," a manuscript of the Tang dynasty Nestorian hymn scroll found in 1908 in the Thousand Buddha Cave in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, is one of the few works of literature that covered music on the spread of Nestorianism in China. Its recitation form gave people a sense of the ancient Chinese people’s worship of God.
Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty composed the poetry collection "Hymns of Universal Praise," which includes the "Lord Before Our World Was Formed," "Ode to the Cross," and "Song of Enlightenment" in modern Chinese history. It incorporates numbers into poetry, including quantifiers such as one to ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand, inch, and zhang.
Rev. Gao shared a sermon titled “Learning the New by Restudying the Old to Praise God’s Grace” to thank Him for caring for the church which bore countless testimonies.
