The Amity Foundation, which is based on faith, continues to aid victims in Türkiye after a massive earthquake struck the country in early February.
A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Türkiye and neighboring Syria on Feb 6, followed by another 7.5-magnitude quake and other aftershocks, resulting in more than 47,000 deaths, as of Tuesday, according to Reuters.
On February 11, following discussions at the “Emergency Response Coordination Center for Chinese NGOs" founded by several Chinese NGOs and civilian rescue teams, the Amity Rescue Team, on the front lines of disaster relief in Türkiye, provided logistical support such as cooking utensils and catering supplies to Chinese social organizations involved in rescue operations in Hatay Province. After arriving in Istanbul on February 10, the team also conducted disaster assessments and needs assessments in heavily affected areas, according to the foundation.
Based on the results of needs assessments in Kahramanmaras Province and Adiyaman in Türkiye, Amity provided eight batches of supplies between February 14th and 18th with the care and support of the Love Foundation and Pundarika Charity. These items included sanitary pads, diapers, tissues, and wet wipes for women and babies; socks; underwear; warm and moisture-proof mats; food (containing food adapting to local tastes); cooking oil; flour; tomato sauce; daily necessities (including shampoo, laundry detergent, toothbrushes, toothpaste, moisturizer, and hand sanitizer); gloves; masks; and protective clothing. All in all, over 10,000 people benefited from these supplies.
Currently, by establishing cooperative relationships with local emergency management offices and social organizations, the Amity Foundation will continue to work with local forces to pay close attention to the needs of emergency assistance and transitional resettlement assistance among the affected people.
