Liushi Church, located in Luyao Village, Liushi Town, Wenzhou City, China’s Jerusalem, was originally known as the Jesus Church, built by William Edward Soothill (Su Huilian in Chinese), a Methodist missionary to China. Soothill preached in Liushi and acquired a house to establish the church. At the start of the 21st century, the old church building was unable to meet the needs of the growing congregation for religious activities and had been in disrepair, prompting the initiative of a new building. The new church, dedicated on January 1, 2013, can hold 5,000 believers, once being the largest Christian church in China. The second floor of the building serves as a multi-purpose area showcasing exhibits, including calligraphy and paintings reflecting the sinicization of Christianity. Imitating the famous painting "A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains," a Chinese artwork depicts the key moments in the life of Jesus Christ, including His birth, baptism, preaching, and ascension.
