A church in Foshan city, Guangdong province held a Thanksgiving celebration for the 22nd anniversary of its restoration.
Rev. Lu Hanqu, chairman of Dongguan TSPM, was invited to give a sermon at Shengping Church in Foshan on April 14, according to Chancheng District TSPM.
The choirs and fellowships gave thanks and praise to the Lord by singing hymns, reciting, giving praise exercises, and dancing.
In 1903, the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) assigned a member to purchase an old house to serve as a branch church. In 1920, Rev. Weng purchased a place in Xibian Lane and opened the Congregational Elementary School in 1923. In 1930, the chapel, called “Xibinxian Lane Church," was built as a two-story brick structure, covering an area of about 367 square meters (0.09 acres). In addition to Sunday services and gatherings, a women’s service group was established to carry out social service work.
Beginning to renovate in April 2000, the church was reopened to the public on April 13, 2002, with Chancheng TSPM located there.
