The Zhushikou Church in Beijing held a ceremony for its reopening after five-year restoration.
On March 30, Rev. Li Yonghong, vice chairman of the Beijing TSPM and senior pastor of the church, presented the five-year restoration since 2019 to the congregants via PowerPoint slides, reported Beijing CC&TSPM.
Rev. Wu Weiqing, president of the Beijing CC, encouraged the church’s pastoral staff and believers to maintain their dedication and thrive in different ministries in the newly restored church.
A total of 180 people, including representatives from the municipal CC&TSPM, pastoral staff, and members of the city's churches, attended this ceremony.
Established by the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Zhushikou Church began its original construction in 1904 and was completed in 1923 with a simple Gothic-style appearance.
In 1958, Protestant churches of different denominations in Beijing were required to hold joint services. During this time, all denominations in South Beijing were merged with Zhushikou Church, which served as one of the only four preserved churches out of the over 60. However, when the Cultural Revolution commenced in 1966, gatherings at Zhushikou Church were forcibly halted, only resuming after 1980.
