According to the World Health Organization's “World Report on Hearing," 1.58 billion people worldwide suffer from varying degrees of hearing loss. There are currently more than 85 million people with disabilities in China, including 27.8 million with hearing impairments.
Starting in 2022, the Amity Foundation initiated the program “Silent Barista,” centered on training vocational skills, the development of inclusive employment, and advocacy in social welfare for the hearing-loss community.
This program kicked off the first course on skills training in October this year, providing coffee-making skills and employment training for the hearing impaired who would like to be baristas. They will participate in specially designed vocational training classes that special education and coffee industry experts jointly developed. Following the course, outstanding students who can pass the skills assessment and meet the employment requirements will receive certificates of completion and acquire internship opportunities.
The training session spans from November 7 to November 21, with the practical training and internship taking place from November 22 to December 22. There are no additional costs associated with this training program.
