Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in late January, the churches in Xinjiang's capital Urumqi have been temporarily closed.
Besides people who are on duty at the Mingde Church and engaged in disinfection and security work, the other staff and congregation members stay at home, according to Urumqi Christian Council.
On March 8, as the number of newly infected declined to zero in Xinjiang and lockdowns were removed from all the communities in Urumqi, the pastoral staff and deacons of Mingde Church visited local pandemic control and prevention personnel.
Four days later, they gave fruit, yogurt, and 500 masks to frontline officials and workers in Heping Bei Community.
Food such as fruit, yogurt, and beef were also sent to the staff and elderly residents of a nursing home co-sponsored by the Urumqi Christian Council and the Amity Foundation.
共同战“疫”，心连心——乌鲁木齐基督教堂在行动
新冠肺炎疫情发生以来，乌鲁木齐天山区基督教会明德堂与全市各教会都积极服从各级政府部门的管理，和乌鲁木齐市基督教协会的通知，第一时间全面停止教堂的大小聚会，严格落实防疫管控的各项制度和要求，用实际行动助力疫情防控工作。同时也发扬爱国爱教的优良传统，为抗击疫情奉献爱心，捐款、捐赠口罩，使之用于支援疫情防控工作。2月以来，除值班人员留守礼拜堂，坚守岗位，做好安全防控、按时消杀等工作，教会的教牧、执事与众信徒们都响应群防群控，自觉宅家，服从各自居住的小区管理，以呆在家里的行动，为防控疫情作贡献。
宅家的日子里，乌鲁木齐明德堂时刻关注疫情，以祈祷为武汉加油！为新疆加油！为中国加油！在这段非常时期也亲身感受到社区干部、访惠聚工作组的领导和工作人员的辛劳，他们奋战在抗“疫”一线，一直没有休息，关心着社区每个居民生活的需要，送菜、送药，照顾特殊老人，事无巨细；他们上门随访、测体温、做宣传……因着他们的付出，使每个家庭和有需要的个人都能在这样特殊时期生活无忧，坚定了大家共同战胜新冠肺炎疫情的信心。我们应该向他们致敬！
3月8日，新疆实现新冠肺炎确诊病例清零，紧接着乌鲁木齐市解除小区封闭，明德堂教牧和执事们走出家门时，第一时间里我们就想到了要慰问在抗疫防控工作中坚守岗位的社区干部、访惠聚工作组的所有工作人员。于是，我们及时购买了水果、酸奶，并筹集到500个口罩，于2020年3月12日上午前往和平北路社区慰问所有的干部和工作人员，表达对他们心系疫情，忘我工作的尊敬和衷心感谢！明德堂与和平北路社区的领导、工作人员及访惠聚工作队的领导们有了短暂又亲热的彼此交谈，大家共同感受到在抗击疫情的战场上，万众一心，共同努力，相互配合，必能战胜疫情！
同时也想到了乌鲁木齐市基督教协会爱德老年公寓的同工同道和那里居住的老人们，直到今天还在封闭管理中工作、生活，他们在那里无怨无悔，积极努力配合防控疫情各项要求，用爱的行动助力疫情防控。为此也为他们预备了水果、酸奶和牛肉，奉献明德堂众信徒的爱心，这是对每位坚守在岗位上抗击疫情的同工同道和老人们的感激！愿上帝赐福他们所有的努力！
慰问结束充满了欢喜！抗击新冠肺炎病毒的战役牵动着各界人心，大家共同抗“疫”，心连心；因你奋战，我感谢！病魔无情人有情，爱心绵延无穷尽！明德堂还将带领教会中的众信徒，继续以爱心助力抗疫！
