Pastor Zhang Guanru went to be with the Lord at 2 p.m. on August 4, 2020, aged 97.
The CC&TSPM of Xianyang, Shaanxi issued an obituary on WeChat on the next morning. The obituary stated that to honor the memory of Pastor Zhang, a memorial service will be held at the Sanyuan County Dongguan Church on Friday. A second memorial service will be held on Saturday at the same church. In accordance with his last wishes, the funeral will be kept simple. Believers may remain in their homes as they remember Pastor Zhang, and those who are not in Sanyuan County do not have to come.
Hearing the news that the old pastor passed away, some of his students expressed their condolences with texts and photos taken with the old pastor in their early years in the WeChat Circle of Friends.
Among them, Sister Xue, who had often been in contact with Pastor Zhang, said she was reluctant to see him go. She recalled her first meeting with her teacher, "When I first met Pastor Zhang, he told me the history of the church and encouraged me to work hard for the Lord.”
Recalling the teachings of the old pastor, she said: “I remember again Pastor Zhang’s warm and powerful smile, and his firm and urgent teaching! 'Rise up for the Lord and remain faithful until death.' The words are both encouragement and a testimony of his life!"
Pastor Zhang was a former member of the CCC&TSPM and the Theological Education Committee, former deputy chairman, deputy president, honorary chairman, and honorary president of the Shaanxi CC&TSPM, former deputy president of Shaanxi Bible School, and former Chairman, Honorary Chairman, Honorary president of Xianyang CC&TSPM and senior pastor of Sanyuan County Dongguan Church.

陕西咸阳市基督教两会8月5日上午在微信公众号发了讣告。讣告中写到：为深切缅怀张冠儒牧师，张冠儒牧师治丧领导小组将于星期五，在三原县基督教东关总堂举行张冠儒牧师追思礼拜。
张冠儒牧师追悼会将于星期六在三原县基督教东关总堂举行。遵从张冠儒牧师生前遗愿，丧事从简，众弟兄姊妹以在家缅怀为主，三原县域外不必前来。
得知老牧师安息主怀的消息，老牧师的一些学生在微信朋友圈以文字以及早年跟老牧师的合影来怀念。
其中，跟老牧师有过多次交往的薛姊妹表达了深深的不舍之情，她回忆了跟老师首次见面的场景：“记得第一次认识张牧师时，他告诉我‘要竭力效主’，给我讲教会历史，鼓励我为主兴起。”如今追忆老牧师的教导，她表示，“张牧师温暖而有力的笑容，坚定又迫切的教导再次浮现！‘为主兴起、至死忠心’的话语既是鼓励，也是他行出来的榜样！”
张冠儒牧师生前曾是中国基督教两会原委员、神学教育委员会原委员，陕西省基督教两会原副主席、副会长、名誉主席、名誉会长，陕西圣经学校原副校长，咸阳市基督教三自会原主席、名誉主席、名誉会长，三原县基督教东关总堂主任。
