Guangzhou CC&TSPM resumed the Guangzhou Master's Lectures on the Sinicization of Christianity in 2024 with a lecture on the Lingnan Area after the Chinese New Year.
According to the host, on March 5, Professor You Bin, director of the Institute of Religious Studies at Minzu University of China, gave a keynote lecture titled "Strengthening the Construction of Theological Thoughts in the Lingnan Area to Promote Full Implementation of Localized Christianity in Guangdong.”
The lecture program started in 2017 as a collaboration between Guangzhou CC&TSPM and Guangzhou Christian Historical and Cultural Center to promote the localization of Christianity and dialogues between the Christian faith and traditional culture.
Professor You introduced that the key discourse on the "construction of theological thought" revolves around era characteristics, contextualization, and historical and cultural traditions to construct contemporary Lingnan theology and explore the practice of sinicizing Christianity in Lingnan. He added that to create a Lingnan-style theology, Christianity must be integrated with the open, accepting, innovative, and practical character of Lingnan culture.
Excelling in the academic area, Professor You's primary research focuses on Christianity, biblical studies, and religious dialogue.
