A delegation of 15 from the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong embarked on a visit to the Guangdong Provincial CC&TSPM.
On the trip from November 29 to December 1, 2023, both parties exchanged their cooperation before the pandemic and mutual prayers and support during the pandemic, reported Guangdong CC&TSPM. The development of ministries was also discussed.
Rev. Fan Hong’en, chairman of the Guangdong Three-Self Patriotic Movement, briefed on the development of churches and a theological seminary in the province, sharing the practices of sinicization of Christianity within Guangdong, as well as the provincial CC&TSPM’s years of programs on free clinics in rural areas and education sponsorship for the needy. He hoped there would be more communication on the sinicization of Christianity, the construction of theological thoughts in the Ling’nan region (which encompasses the present Chinese provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong, and Macau), healthy continuity of Christianity, as well as public services.
Rev. Eric Tong Wing-mun, president of the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong, expressed his hope for future collaborations in church liturgy, pastoral management, history research, and talent nurturing, thereby enhancing Christian continuity and friendships among the new generation's pastoral staff and young believers.
Affiliated to the Southern Baptist Convention, the Hong Kong Baptist Convention was founded on March 27, 1938, during the Japanese invasion of China, to support the suffering domestic members and spread the gospel. Its mission is to connect and serve the Baptist churches in Hong Kong, equip believers, train gospel workers, and provide education, medical, and social services.
