In despite of lockdown since mid-March, one church in China’s southeastern coastal Fujian Province continued to conduct pastoral ministries, while another church donated money and supplies to combat COVID-19.
Apart from participating in the epidemic prevention and control efforts as volunteers, pastors of Chengguan Church in Lianjiang County, Fuzhou City, carried out online ministries, using phones and WeChat accounts to arrange work, the church said. Every week, pastors and church staff worked together to record sermons for worship services on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
During the suspension period, pastors led believers to renovate the ramps and clean the drain gutters in the basement, which saved money for the church.
In addition, in order to make better use of the space at the church, they refurbished a vacant room into the venue for socializing that would serve for reception, fellowship and recreational activities, attracting Christians and non-Christians of all ages and classes to receive gospel.
On March 24, the elders and deacons of Qingyang Church in Jinjiang City, came to Chixi Community, Caicuo Community and Meiling Street Health Service Center, giving anti-pandemic workers 15,000 yuan and food supplies totaling 5,000 yuan, including bread, instant noodles, milk, and soft drinks, reported the church.
Confronting the epidemic, the church cared for special groups that were temporarily under enclosed management. On April 9, the church’s Elder Deacon Board members and the party committee secretary of the Caicuo Community visited six families with disabled, seriously ill and widowed elderly people, each of which was given 380 yuan worth of food supplies such as rice, oil, and eggs.
In the past month, the church has donated 5,000 yuan to Chixi Community, 5,000 yuan to Caicuo Community, 5,000 yuan to Meiling Street Health Center, food products valued 1,380 yuan to six special families.
