Xinhua Daily reports that 21 religious activity sites are honored as the second five-star religious activity sites of Jiangsu Province, including Suzhou Dushu Lake Church, Changzhou Church, Huaian Church, Jiannan Church of Suqian, St. Paul’s Church of Nanjing.
Covering an area of about 7,000 square meters, Huaian Church, located in Qinghe District, Huaian City, was built in December, 1999. The main hall has two floors and the annexe owns seven floors . It can take in 5000 people at one time with a construction area of 3,685 square meters (40 meters in height, 41 meters in width and 54 meters in length).
Lake Dushu Church, located on the bank of Lake Dushu of Suzhou Industrial Park, was put into use in May, 2010. The church adopts the Gothic style which covers a total construction area of over 5000 square meters. It has three parts: main hall, pastoral building and bell tower. The colored glass inside the church shows Christian culture. A six-meter-high cross stands in the lake, becoming a feature for the church.
Nanjing St. Paul's Church, built in 1912, sits in Street Nanping South as the first official church in Nanjing. The appearance of the elegant, exquisite church is typical Roman Gothic and the inside structure adopts Chinese traditional style. On the both sides of the wall inside the church lie five jade white verse inscriptions. The church has been classed as Modern Historical Architecture, Nangjing.
Changed from the former name of the Carriger Church, Changzhou Church was established by John Hawk, an American missionary, in 1916. It was demolished and rebuilt in 2001. Imitating the Gothic style, the new church building with was completed in March, 2004. It can accommodate more than 1,300 believers covering 822 square meters with a construction area of 2880 square meters.
Sitting on the Grand Canal, Jiannan Church (Sucheng District, Suqian) is a village church with western style. It covers 5175 square meters. Owning a construction area of 2600 square meters, the main hall can have the capacity of 2000 people. The church has orchestra band and art propaganda team that always hold theatrical performances.
Qingyu Church(Sheyang County, Yancheng), Mochou Lu Church (Nanjing) and Tongxin Church (Sihong, Suqian City) were among the 18 five-star religious activity sites in 2014 the first time selected by Jiangsu Province.
