This Easter Sunday was totally different than before as the coronavirus has spread around the world. The churches were empty, but Christians across China celebrated the Lord's resurrection in creative ways.
Bejing Nanyuan Church held an online worship and praise service, including playing a recorded video which integrated the song Calvary's Love with clips from the movie The Passion of the Christ. Its youth choir members from different geographic places sang songs in unison through the live broadcast.
The congregation of Harbin Bethel Church of China's northeastern Heilongjiang Province presented their worship through poem reciting, dances, and choral songs. Wearing facial masks, the pastoral staff of Hangzhou Sicheng Church in Zhejiang in the courtyard took turns reading Scripture.
A church in Guangzhou normally would distribute Easter eggs to its members, while this year members could get eggs from a believer's home.
The Easter tradition of a church in Jilin was having God's word printed on eggs. However the staff adopted a method in this special time by, "having Easter eggs be represented by WeChat red envelopes that contained Bible verses". Anyone who opened a "red envelope" on WeChat also received God's word on which he or she could meditate.
Although most Christians joined stay-at-home Easter services, many churches informed their congregations of service procedures through social media platforms in advance, hoping for homes to become places holding worship services to God.
